Fun Facts
- She’s a mix of leopards: Luna is a mix of a Persian and an Amur leopard, a breed combination that helps her thrive in the cold Siberian climate. Videos often show her happily rolling and playing in deep snow.
- Venza thought Luna was her cub: When Venza the Rottweiler was first introduced to the tiny panther cub, she immediately started licking Luna’s fur and showed strong maternal instincts, bonding with her instantly.
- She’s fully grown but still “small”: Luna is a full-grown adult leopard (around four years old as of early 2024). She weighs over 50kgs (approx. 110 lbs) but is slightly smaller than Venza and some sources suggest she may have dwarfism, contributing to her unique size.
- She eats a lot of raw meat: Luna requires a specialized, high-quality diet that includes a significant amount of fresh raw meat—sometimes 5-10 lbs per day—which is a major expense for her owners.
- She learned “bite inhibition” from a dog: Venza played a crucial role in Luna’s development by helping her learn how to play safely and control her natural hunting instincts and bite strength during their interactions.
- She’s a big baby who loves cuddles: Despite her size and sharp teeth, her owner Victoria describes Luna as a “big baby” who loves belly rubs, cuddles, and following her human mom everywhere.
- She lives with her family in the wilderness: Victoria, her husband, and Luna moved to a remote area in the Siberian wilderness to give Luna ample space to roam and climb trees, in addition to an outdoor enclosure built specifically for her.

Short Information about differences between Jaguars, Black Panthers and Pantera
- Jaguars are a specific species (Panthera onca) of big cat native to the Americas. They typically have a tan coat with large rosettes that have a distinct spot inside the center. They are stockier and more muscular than leopards.
- Black Panther is a color variant, not a species. It is a common name for a jaguar or a leopard with melanism—a genetic condition that results in a surplus of black pigment in their fur. Their spots are still present but hidden beneath the dark coat.
- In Africa and Asia, a black panther is a black leopard (Panthera pardus).
- In the Americas, a black panther is a black jaguar.
- Pantera is the Latin word for the genus Panthera, which is the scientific classification that includes all big cats capable of roaring: lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, and snow leopards. In everyday language, “panther” is used as a generic common name for black leopards/jaguars or even cougars/pumas in North America.
