• Original Owner: Daddy was originally owned by the famous rapper Redman. Redman asked Cesar Millan to care for the 4-month-old puppy after realizing he couldn’t due to his busy career.
• A True Ambassador: Cesar Millan referred to Daddy as an “ambassador” for the pit bull breed. Daddy’s calm, empathetic, and gentle nature helped challenge negative public perceptions of the breed.
• Role on the Show: Daddy appeared in more than 50 episodes of The Dog Whisperer. Millan used him as a “right-hand man” to help rehabilitate aggressive or nervous dogs, relying on his naturally calm energy to model desired behavior for other dogs.
• A Cancer Survivor: Daddy successfully battled cancer and underwent chemotherapy around age 14 before his eventual passing.
• Longevity: Daddy lived to a remarkably old age for a large-breed dog, passing away peacefully at 16 years old in February 2010, surrounded by Millan’s family.
• “Teacher of Life”: Millan often referred to Daddy as his “teacher of life,” “soul mate,” and “mentor,” crediting the dog with teaching him valuable lessons about life and nature.
• Selecting a Successor: Before he died, Daddy helped Millan select his successor, a puppy named Junior (also a pit bull), to carry on his work of assisting with dog rehabilitation.
• Memorial Fund: To honor his legacy, the Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation established “Daddy’s Emergency Animal Rescue Fund” to assist dogs who are victims of abuse or natural disasters.
