- A “World Traveler”: In the last year of his life, despite his advanced age and declining health, his owners took him on a grand tour of Europe, visiting countries including Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, and France.
- A Cheese Connoisseur: While traveling, he developed a particular fondness for Gruyère cheese, the pungent Swiss cheese, and posed for photos in its birthplace in Switzerland.
- Philanthropic Poodle: After his owner mentioned on Good Morning America that Chichi’s favorite food was Spot’s Stew, the dog food manufacturer donated 10,000 meals to the Charleston animal shelter where Chichi was adopted.
- Deaf, Blind, but Still Played Fetch: Towards the very end of his life, Chichi was both blind and deaf due to cataracts, glaucoma, and corneal ulcers, but he still managed to play the game of fetch with his owners.
- The “Cheech”: His owners affectionately referred to him by the nickname “The Cheech”.
- More Expensive than College: His owners estimated that they spent “more than a college education” on his extensive veterinary care over the years, including setting alarms for hourly eye drops at one point.
- Wedding Guest: He was well-traveled even before his European tour and even attended his owners’ wedding in Croatia in October 2010.

Short Information about the World’s Oldest Dogs
- Official Record Holder (Ever): Bluey holds the confirmed Guinness World Record, having worked on a farm for nearly two decades.
- Recent Controversy (Bobi): The Portuguese dog Bobi was briefly recognized as the “oldest dog ever” with a claimed age of 31, but his title was revoked by Guinness World Records in February 2024 due to a lack of conclusive evidence for his birth date.
- Current Oldest Living Dog: There is currently no confirmed holder for the title of the world’s oldest living dog following Bobi’s disqualification.
- Extreme Longevity: While most dogs live 10–13 years, reaching ages over 20 is extremely rare and often limited to smaller breeds or specific circumstances.
